Thomas Russo – Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Russo was appointed CEO of MMFX Technologies in 2013. He leads the development and execution of the corporate strategy in line with the mission and vision of MMFX Technologies. With over 35 years of experience in the steel industry, Mr. Russo is focused on driving the expansion of the industrial applications for MMFX’s unique steel nanotechnology and growing the market position of its uncoated corrosion-resistant and high-strength reinforcing steel products.
Mr. Russo began his career in 1977 at Bethlehem Steel’s Sparrows Point rod and wire mill as a management trainee. During his time there he held various roles in engineering, operations and senior management across several different facility owners. Mr Russo retired as president & general manager of the Sparrows Point facility in 2010 while it was under the ownership of OAO Severstal.
Prior to joining MMFX Technologies Mr. Russo served as the president and CEO of Trusscon Inc., a consulting company focused on the steel manufacturing and processing industries. There he has led efforts to assist major global companies with improvements in a variety of areas, including sales strategy, product development and evaluation of industry opportunities.
Mr. Russo is also a respected and active member of the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) Foundation. He has served on the board of trustees since 2006 as well as president of the foundation. The AIST Foundation has the goal of attracting young technology professionals to modern steelmaking through the promotion of the high-tech and diverse nature of the industry.
Mr. Russo holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and 7 patents related to the steel industry.
Michael W. Pompay — President & Corporate Secretary
Mr. Pompay oversees the operations and strategic corporate development for MMFX Technologies Corporation and its subsidiaries. His managerial responsibilities include strategic planning, market development, finance, legal, and implementation of the business plan. The corporation’s prime directive is to expand the business through sales growth, strategic partnering, and technology licensing.
With senior-level management experience across multiple disciplines, Mr. Pompay joined MMFX in 2002. Since then, he has served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Registered In-house Counsel and Corporate Secretary, during which he specialized in negotiating complex strategic and financial business transactions.
Prior to MMFX, Mr. Pompay was Chief Financial Officer and In-house Counsel for Atopix Pharmaceuticals Corporation, an early-stage pharmaceuticals company based in California. That followed his tenure at Ayco Company, L.P., a major financial firm with offices nationwide, where he worked as a financial strategist for individual and business accounts.
Mr. Pompay holds a J.D. from Albany Law School – Union University and a B.S. in finance with an accounting concentration from Siena College.
Arthur W. Lupia — Vice President, Steel Operations
A respected leader in the steel industry for more than 40 years, Mr. Lupia leads all operations and product development initiatives at the Company. In this role he drives the integration of MMFX’s technologies into commercially viable products and solutions worldwide. He also manages the relationships with additional production partners as well as parties interests in licensing the unique steel technologies of MMFX. His success is bolstered by the ability to draw on his deep knowledge of the steel industry, operations, steel making and market requirements.
Mr. Lupia joined MMFX in 2001 and served in several capacities, including Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Before joining MMFX, Mr. Lupia was President and CEO of Border Steel, a major producer of reinforcing steels for the U.S. market. During his 28 years there, he researched and implemented numerous methods for improving efficiency, providing value-added products, developing new products and reducing costs.
His professional resume also includes serving as a metallurgist at Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I) and at Concast, where he was responsible for starting up numerous continuous casting plants.
Mr. Lupia is active in several major industry organizations, and is a past President and director of the Steel Manufacturers’ Association. He has also served on the ISAC 7 Committee of the U.S. Department of Commerce and contributed significantly to the development of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Salem S. Faza, Ph.D. — Vice President of Engineering and Specifications of MMFX Technologies Corporation and President of MMFX Steel DMCC
Recognized for his groundbreaking scientific work in academic and industry circles, Dr. Faza heads all technical research & development operations at MMFX. In addition, he serves as President of MMFX Steel DMCC, where he focuses on expanding product sales and technology commercialization in the Middle East markets.
During Dr. Faza’s more than 25 years of experience in the concrete industry, he has specialized in conventional and advanced reinforcing products, and has been involved in the development and code acceptance of advanced reinforcing products nationally and internationally. His contributions to the Company’s engineering and specification efforts include leading the development and acceptance of the newest ASTM reinforcing bar specification for high-strength steel (ASTM A1035). Currently, Dr. Faza is coordinating code development for concrete designs with MMFX steel rebar.
As a member of the American Concrete Institute, Dr. Faza serves on the ACI 439 steel reinforcing committee. He is also an active member of the American Society of Testing Materials and serves on several of its committees, along with NACE International and the American Society of Civil Engineering. He has planned, supervised and coordinated all phases of application engineering, including research programs, at more than 20 institutions worldwide.
Dr. Faza holds a Ph.D. from West Virginia University in advanced composite applications in construction, with an emphasis on rebar for concrete application, design and analysis.
Sherry Sweitzer – Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Sherry Sweitzer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, is an energetic and highly versatile sales professional with a diverse background in the engineering, construction and maintenance business. Well versed in the latest sales research, methodologies and practical implementation, Sherry is responsible for growing sales through the effective management of the company’s North American sales team, and educating the market on the benefits of MMFX’s ChrōmX steel solutions.
Throughout her career, Sherry has contributed to business growth through positions in sales management, business development, marketing and operations in the engineering and construction fields.
Before joining MMFX, Sherry was Vice President, Global Sales for Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., where she directly managed sales teams in targeted business areas, as well as trained the global sales force. Earlier, she was Vice President, North America Infrastructure Sales, responsible for managing the unit’s sales team and, in conjunction with operations, determining the proper strategic approaches and desired business blends for growth across services and sectors.
Starting her career with Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. more than 25 years ago, Sherry progressed from managing federal contracts to pricing and negotiations, and then moved to various roles in sales and operations across a variety of sectors with an emphasis in infrastructure, federal and hydrocarbons.
She is a member of the Association of Women in the Metal Industries and a former member of Corporate Executive Board. Sherry has a Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Bassam Saddawi – Technical Services Director
Mr. Saddawi assists in overseeing the technical research and development, and provides technical guidance on application of technology and engineering strategies for MMFX Technologies Corporation. His managerial responsibilities include strategic planning, project management of product development, and engineering support to sales and business development across North America.
With more than nineteen years of experience in project and construction management and design engineering, Mr. Saddawi has demonstrated the ability to manage large and complex fast track private development and public works projects and programs in the United States, Canada and the Middle East. He is expert in leading all phases of project execution from front-end loading activities including feasibility, conceptual engineering, design consultant tendering and design delivery, throughout contractor tendering, construction project management, closeout and handover to operations.
Prior to joining MMFX Mr. Saddawi served as a Senior Project Manager and Team Leader for AECOM, the largest Technical and Program Management Consultancy support services worldwide. Contributing for iconic consultants such as AECOM and SNC-Lavalin, and world class design-built projects, Mr. Saddawi is a technical expert of value engineering applications during design, construction, operation and maintenance phases of structures.
Mr. Saddawi holds a Masters of Science in Civil Engineering, a licensed Professional Engineer in Canada and a registered Civil Professional Engineer in the State of California, a LEED Accredited Professional BD+C, an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a candidate for a Master in Business Administration from Chapman University.
Amy Liu, CPA — Controller
Ms. Liu oversees corporate finance and accounting activities at MMFX. She maintains responsibility for all financial reporting and controls, forecasting, asset accounting and banking for the corporation and its subsidiary companies.
With more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Liu has held senior-level finance positions for leading southern California companies involved in real estate, mortgage banking, and construction. Her expertise in financial and operational systems integration helped those firms achieve superior cost efficiencies and consistently strong ROI.
Ms. Liu served as Chief Financial Officer and Controller at Los Angeles County-based Air-Tec, prior to joining MMFX. The 40-year-old company designs, manufactures and installs commercial and industrial-grade systems in the western U.S. That followed a multi-year engagement at real estate investment and management firm Greenlaw Partners, where she served as Principal Accounting Officer. Her resume also includes Controller positions at Hanover Financial Company (a subsidiary of Marcus & Millichap Co.), as well as The Picerne Group.
After graduating with a BA from the University of International Business and Economics, P.R. China, Ms. Liu went on to earn her MBA in Accountancy at San Diego State University. Fluent in Chinese, she has also attended the University of California, San Diego, Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies.
